Some heroes wear capes—but the ones who inspire us most are often the people we see every day. They are the friends who lift us up, the teachers who believe in us, the families who keep us going, and the students who find their courage in the face of challenges.
This campaign was inspired by Playing for Change’s version of “Everyday People.” Their song reminds us that music and art have the power to connect us, to open hearts, and to create change. We carry that same belief into our work with students. When young people feel safe and supported, they discover their own bravery—and the hero inside them.
In the summer of 2025 we traveled across New York State recording students performing to the song, in our own moving rendition.
Everyday People, Everyday Heroes is a year-long celebration of those moments of courage, kindness, and resilience that shine through in everyday life. Together, we’ll honor students, alumni, staff, and community members who step up for others in big and small ways—and show that heroes are all around us.
The Heroes Quest: A Journey to the Summit
The Heroes Quest is a multi-month personal development challenge designed to push students outside their comfort zones and help them discover the strength, resilience, and determination already within them. Each student will take part in activities such as a 48-hour digital detox, walking goals, daily gratitude practices, a 21-day wellness challenge, and other tasks that encourage reflection, discipline, and self-growth.
All roads lead to the Empire Promise Youth Summit in April 2026, themed “Rise of the Heroes and the Power Within.” There, one student who demonstrates exceptional perseverance and personal growth will receive a $1,000 prize, but every student who completes the Quest will be honored.
