Marist Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) alumna, Taylor O’Connor (Kingston High School Class of 2017 graduate) shared her life’s story in a recent New York Times article. She specifically shared her continued journey with a hair-pulling disorder and a body-focused repetitive behavior (BFRB), called Trichotillomania. The article also included a story from her friend, Rebecca, another member of the BFRB community. The article shed light on the fact that the behaviors are a Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and not an act of self harm. Taylor’s ability to be vulnerable and create awareness is very admirable.

Taylor is doing well. She is an active member of the TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors Young Adult Action Council (YAAC). Taylor is focused on her mental health by staying in touch with her fellow Council members and going to therapy. She recently celebrated her 21st birthday and completed her junior year at SUNY New Paltz (where she is working to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology). Depending on the New York State reopening guidelines, Taylor may be a Tour Captain at Rail Explorers Catskills Division this summer. Taylor will be taking a hiatus from the YAAC in the fall to possibly study abroad (in Spain).

Taylor is a resilient young woman. Her light shines bright. LPP is proud of the young woman that Taylor has become! #lppstrong
